Circle Craft 2008

This was my third year attending the Circle Craft show at Canada Place in Vancouver. This show is the biggest art market in Western Canada with over 260 artisans showcasing their work. The Totally Amazing Glass stage run by Malcolm Macfadyen has been a major part of the Market for over 12 years. Pictured above is my opening night lampworking demonstration on the Totally Amazing glass stage. The crowded Market with over 2500 people in attendance and a couple hundred faces watching my every move was an amazing experience! Special thanks to all my supporters that showed up to watch me live on the stage.

Starfire Gallery

Special thanks to all the people that showed for our opening at Starfire Gallery. The "Glass Bubbles" chandelier project is a great success! If you find yourself in Horseshoe bay area then stop by the gallery and take a look. It's worth it to see this art piece in person.

City Space

This video was filmed by one of the first film crews that ever came to my studio. The piece is Small City Spaces ...... They found me while working in my studio (2006) in the False creek area of Vancouver. At the time I had built my shop in a tiny 250 sq. ft art studio that was a bit of a hole in the wall. Please feel free to drop me a comment! or click on the following link to view more of my Flamework videos

"Glass Bubbles" Custom Lighting

Take a look at my second chandelier "Glass Bubbles" . This piece consists of 80 clear blown orbs ranging in size and shape hanging off of a wooden frame. Conceptually I wanted the piece to have a warmer or natural feel to compliment the mass of very bubbly looking glass . Using wood as a mixed media with glass is rarely done giving the piece great uniqueness and west coast appeal.

Stanley Park Dragonfly Series

Meet Jack, he is part of my Stanley Park Dragon Fly series...... A number of years ago there was a giant wind storm that ravaged Vancouver's crown jewel Stanley Park....... Hundreds of trees were toppled over and uprooted.... The roots of these tree's spread deep down into the earth, some of these roots were hundreds of miles deep..... Deep within the lower levels just before the magma center of the earth lyes a mystical place where only the most magical of creatures live..... this is where these Stanley Park Dragonfly's used to be trapped.....covered up by rock and earth tucked away for centuries...... That now famous wind storm uprooted the tree's with such force that tunnels were created releasing these creatures from captivity. If you find yourself on a crisp calm evening walking the seawall or watching the sun set over the tree's you might be lucky enough to spot one of Vancouver's most mystical of creatures the Stanley Park Dragonfly.

Pictured above is my first mixed media chandelier project. The project was completed around Christmas time (2007) when we installed the finished piece in the buyers home. This project consists of 36 large glass twist pendants hanging off of a stainless steal disk. Each glass pendant hangs off of air craft cable that is strong enough to hold thousands of pounds! This very modern look of glass and metal really does the trick for me..... please feel free to click on the following link for more information on my Glass Chandelier

So I'm back to the glass shop today!! It's cool to take a couple days off from the torch..... helps me recover....glass blowing is very hard on your upper body as well as forearms.... so a couple days of markets then back to the real deal making the glass. In the picture above I'm pulling out a molten hot Dichro cane...... I will use the backed and colored dichro to make very flashy Dichro jewelry and one of my current favorites Dichro Marbles.

Trip to Whistler!

Man Whistler Rocks!! I want to say thanks to everyone I met this weekend up in Whistler!! I had a great time!! Driving the sea to sky highway is always fun.... on the way up it was smooth sailing but on the way back snow, ice, fog and construction made it more like a rally car race yea ha! The mountain had just opened and riders and skiers were pumped ! It kinda sucked I didn't get the chance to ride while up there but hey I'm more of a later in the season kinda guy....with all the buzz about riding my midnight black diamond glass jewellery was a hit!! Thanks again Whistler for one of my best shows this holiday season!~!
