Absolut Vancouver

We are thrilled to announce that Braden Hammond is one of 5 artists selected to compete in Absolut Vodka's "Absolut Vancouver" competition. "Absolut Vancouver" challenges Vancouver artists to propose an idea that is deserving of a grant for an installment slated to go up in Gastown. Absolut plans to use the proceeds of sales from their Absolut Vancouver limited edition bottle to offer up to $120,000 for the artists to make their vision real.

Our theme is "Absolut City of Glass" and it only takes one look at the city skyline to know why Vancouver has been called this already. View Finalist Proposals.

Braden Hammond Bio

Braden Hammond began his journey as a lampworking glass artist in 2003 at Santa Cruz Art and Glass Studio in California. From that moment, he was hooked on the beauty of glass art and it’s endless possibilities. He is constantly exploring the techniques and challenges of glass and is an active participant in the growing glass movement. Hammond’s current art focuses on modern expressions using various lampworking techniques. Whether it’s the clean lines of the Italian Reticello pattern or the crisp pedals of the imploded flower, his dedication to perfection is a distinct part of his style. “I strive to push my limits and the limits of glass every day. I am constantly learning, growing and creating new concepts that take my art to the next level. I focus and explore new methods and techniques to follow through with each of my visions.” Hammond’s glass art is currently in galleries and boutiques across Canada and internationally. He has been featured in The Vancouver Province Newspaper, the Edmonton Journal and has been nominated as an Emerging Artist in The Flow Magazine, a Glass Journal for the Flameworking Community. He has taught several classes at Andrighetti Glassworks, Western Canada’s largest lampworking facility. Braden Hammond currently resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada with his girlfriend and business partner Kristina Holtz.

Custom Lighting Creation....

"The Chimes" Custom lighting project combining metal and glass is by far my biggest accomplishment to date... The hand blown Tradition clear borosilicate glass pieces, mirrored stainless steel , Powder coat metal framework and silver fumed lighting covers are the main highlights on this massive one of a kind lighting project.

Pictured above is a close up of Braden Hammond's custom made silver fume lighting covers.

The installation........

I decided to call this custom lighting project "The Chimes" because during the installation process the glass pieces would chime together whenever the metal frame was unintentionally moved. The sound of hundreds of individual pieces of glass ringing together is amazing!!!

Dragons Eye Marble by Braden Hammond

" I met the Dragons years ago.... I'm not sure why they came to me?? maybe it's because I play with fire"" said Hammond when asked about his one of a kind art Marbles. Hammond first introduced these marbles to his local collectors in Vancouver, BC Canada in mid 2008. " For all 2008, as soon as a dragons eye came to me it would be gone snatched up by a collector within a matter of days. Not one Dragons eye was ever photographed by us until 2009". Pictured above is Braden Hammond's Dragons Eye Marble 2009. Please click on the link to see more of Hammond's glass art marbles.
